Lyrics

1. I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say ( Intro)

I heard the voice of Jesus say
Come unto me and rest
Lay down thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon my breast
I came to Jesus as I was
Weary and worn and sad
I found in Him a resting place
And He has made me glad

I heard the voice of Jesus say
I am this dark world’s light
Look unto me thy morn shall rise
And all thy days be bright
I looked to Jesus and I found
Within my star my song
And in that light of life I’ll walk
Til traveling days are done

3. Wild Lament

The cold winds blow, the black clouds hover
The one I love has now crossed over
The bitter winds batter my soul
And here I stand on this rocky ground alone
And here I stand on this rocky ground alone

The crashing waves that draw me under
With bleeding heart that’s torn asunder
An icy breath pierces my soul
And here I lie on this rocky ground alone
And here I lie on this rocky ground alone

A lone bird rises to the heavens
As it soars high the shadows lengthen
A hollow cry strangles my soul
And all goes dark on this rocky ground alone
It all goes dark on this rocky ground alone

My weary eyes search the horizon
As threatening skies begin to lighten
A flash of hope ignites my soul
I bend my knee on this rocky ground alone
I will bow down on this holy ground alone

4. River of Tears

Oh my heart, it broke apart
When love came back it could not start
The dreams they died there by your side
And buried in the sorrow I

Something beats beneath my feet
A rhythm of deep calls to deep
Ice and snow now thaws and flows
A river from my eyes, a river of tears I cry

Open up and let it out
Fill your cup as tears run down
Don’t give up, don’t cave to doubt
What was lost can still be found

Oh my God, You came along
And carried all my burdens on
A tree that grows with thorns and throes
A river from your side, a river of your life

6. Edge of the World

I’ve looked pain in the face
I’ve stared death in the eye
As I ‘ve traced every line and
Seen through every lie that has led me to the edge of the world

I’ve heard grief on the wind
Crack a hole in the sky
As the heavens let loose with a gut-wrenching cry that
Drives me to the edge of the world

I still see the glint of that fading red sun
As you took your last breath and you breathed your last song
With a voice that was thunder and tore me asunder
And left me to wonder and wander at the edge of the world

Kneeling in my mourning plagued with doubt and filled with fear
Rising in the morning with the emptiness still here

Then the brush of an angel’s wing wakens my soul
To the known and unknown, uniting the whole
That exists at the edge of the world

There are days when I cling to the sky just to hang on
When gravity isn’t enough to hold on to me
Days when I reach through the veil
And feel something more real than what I can touch

Suddenly there is no this side or that
And the veil disappears and time comes to a stop
All that is real becomes reason enough to dance on the edge of the world.

Dancing in the evening with my doubts and through my fears
Rising in the morning to the truth that You are here.

7. Resurrection Song

Sons and daughters, drawn from the water
We won’t be swallowed by the Earth
Holy Father, our grave robber
He brings life up from the dirt

Voice of the prophet calls from the desert
Opens blind eyes and heals the lame
Holy Spirit, can you hear it?
Speaking to us still on this day

What once was dead can stand and live again
Revived by His perfect love
We share the sufferings of a risen King
Who for us has overcome

By His brokenness we can be whole again
And all the streams flow as one

Resurrection, new creation
Rolling the stone out of the way
Holy fountain come down from the mountain
Washing dry bones that we might raise

Sons and daughters, drawn from the water
We won’t be swallowed by the Earth

8. Friend

You were a friend to me when no one else would be
When I was crumpled and torn
And my life was shriveled and worn

You reached into my world so different from yours
Taught me stand tall and then
You helped me to love life again

I never thanked you enough
For seeing through heaven’s eyes
Burning through all my lies
Never thanked you enough
For stepping across my lines
Forgiving all my crimes

Then one sunny morning you left me for good
Wasn’t the way it should be
We all know it should have been me

They tell me to move on but I never will
I buried you deep in my heart
While you live there we’re never apart

I never thanked you enough
For seeing through heaven’s eyes
Burning through all my lies
Never thanked you enough
For stepping across my lines
Forgiving all my crimes

Never thanked you enough
For laughter that stopped the pain
Real love that broke the chains
Never thanked you enough
Simply for being my friend
Thank you for being my friend

9. I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

I heard the voice of Jesus say
Come unto me and rest
Lay down thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon my breast
I came to Jesus as I was
Weary and worn and sad
I found in Him a resting place
And He has made me glad

I heard the voice of Jesus say
Behold I freely give
The living water thirsty one
Stoop down and drink and live
I came to Jesus and I drank of that life-giving stream
My thirst was quenched
My soul revived
And now I live in Him

I heard the voice of Jesus say
I am this dark world’s light
Look unto me thy morn shall rise
And all thy days be bright
I looked to Jesus and I found
In Him my star my song
And in that light of life I’ll walk
Til traveling days are done
