Ancient Path Academy is a primary school Pre-K to Grade 5, located in Kaliyeka Township, Malawi. Officially registered with the Malawi government, Ancient Path Academy offers a solid education with dedicated teachers for children whose daily lives can be a struggle for survival.
One of the academy’s features is that, along with basic reading, writing, and arithmetic, intensive English language learning begins in pre-school. This matters because Chichewa is the primary language in the Malawi school curriculum until 8th grade, but from ninth grade on, all the textbooks are English only. Children who live in the townships have less opportunity to learn English than those who are more well-off and hear English spoken at home, leaving them at a severe disadvantage.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, parents and guardians paid a small school fee every month, making the academy nearly self-sufficient. However, economic hardship in the country increased in 2020, putting school fees out of reach for Kaliyeka Township families. Fortunately, generous donors like yourself enable us to keep the school running and pay the teaching staff until the crisis has passed, and the people can get back on their feet.
