A recent report from Chifundo Director Pastor Moses Mtambo shows the program going strong. Moses writes: The children’s attendance it’s so great and encouraging. It gives us confidence that whatever we are offering to them and the community is helping their lives and families. Of course, feeding, teaching and caring for 200 children is no easy feat for Moses and his team of five teachers and caregivers!
As the children stream onto the Mtambo property, they separate into age-specific groups, each led by a single teacher. In these groups, they pursue different activities such as tutoring, story-telling, exercise, play and art. (The coloring pages in the photo below were specially created by an artist in Minnesota to illustrate daily life in Malawi with captions in the Chichewa language.)
The children enjoy playing with educational materials, percussion instruments and toys provided for them but also enjoy popular Malawian games such as bawo, soccer and netball. Space is limited with so many children and no facility yet, but the children always find a way. They’re just grateful to be together and part of the program – as expressed by one young chalk artist in the photo below!
As Moses and his team visit the children’s homes every month, they witness the many hardships that the children and guardians face. But they are also encouraged to hear first-hand reports on the children’s development. After visiting three children at home recently, Moses wrote: Speaking on the children’s physical, social and spiritual life of their children, the guardian said that there is a great improvement in every aspect of their children’s lives, especially in intellectual which was a big problem in their past. But these days their kids are coming up with good grades from school. The guardian also extended her appreciation to all the Ancient Path team for initiating this program in Kaliyeka Township.
One piece of very good news is that we are close to finalizing the land purchase in Kaliyeka, just yards up the road from the Mtambo property where the kids meet now. While it is not the most spacious piece of land, it’s an excellent location in the heart of the township that will allow us to build a multi-purpose facility without losing any of the children currently in the Chifundo program. We’ll keep you updated on this!
Thanks to everyone who gives, prays and works to give these beautiful children hope and a future!
