Pastor Jonoro and his wife Hanitra, our partners in the Mikea Forest of Madagascar, report that Christmas was a special time this year for the school children of Anjabetrongo village and the Mikea family in Bevondro. Traveling to this remote place during the rainy season is very difficult and Jonoro tells us that his car has broken down again. But he and his team were able to visit both locations to bring God’s love in both word and action. And thanks to the generous donors here in the US, Ancient Path was able to send funds for a Christmas feast, school supplies, and distribution of maize seeds to each family!
In the village of Bevondro, the team shared God’s love and a hot meal of goat meat and rice. The people responded with great joy in traditional music and dance for two hours in the dark of night. Jonoro reports that even the elders joined in the dance!
In Anjabetrongo, while church members prepared a meal of meat and rice for 160 very hungry school children, team members shared the message of God’s love through the story of Christmas. Before their feast, the children each received gifts of special school supplies and sweets while their families received 1.5 kilos of maize seeds for planting.
Pastor Jonoro reports that due to environmental changes over the last few years, finding food and roots for moisture has become increasingly difficult. He hopes to improve the nutrition program – especially during the rainy season from December through March – in order to help the children stay in school. During the rains, the drop-out rate can reach as high as 40% with the main reason being lack of food and clean water.
Many thanks to Pastor Jonoro and Hanitra and their team for all their hard work in this very difficult environment – among these very precious people. And thanks to all of you who give generously to make this work possible!
