February Book Discussion

February Book Discussion

Last November, we piloted a small, invite-only online book discussion featuring Frank Laubach’s Letters by a Modern Mystic. Those who participated enjoyed the process of listening, learning, and sharing so much that we’ve decided to do it again! The title we’ve chosen for this discussion is The Color of Compromise: The Truth About the American Church’s Complicity in Racism by Jemar Tisby. Here’s a brief description from the back cover of the book:

In The Color of Compromise, Jemar Tisby takes readers back to the roots of sustained racism and injustice in the American Church. Filled with powerful stories and examples of American Christianity’s racial past, Tisby’s historical narrative highlights the obvious ways people of faith have actively worked against racial justice, as well as the complicit silence of racial moderates. Identifying the cultural and institutional table that must be flipped to bring about progress, Tisby provides an in-depth diagnosis for a racially divided American church and suggests ways to foster a more equitable and inclusive environment among God’s people.”

The author also writes: “This study is not about discrediting the church or Christians. I love the church…the goal is to build up the Body of Christ by ‘speaking the truth in love’, even if that truth comes at the price of pain.

We’ve chosen this book in the hopes of starting a discussion, where listening will be the priority and kindness and humility the rule.  You can purchase the book on Amazon , Barnes and Noble, or check your local library for available e-book and audio-book copies. You don’t need to complete the book by our starting date so don’t panic; you can read it as we go!

We will meet via Zoom on the evenings of February 14th, 21st, 28th, and March 7th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. For the first three weeks, we will discuss the book and in the final week, we’ll share what we’ve learned and pray together.

To register, please send an email to Ancient Path and let us know you plan to join us. Then, a few days before we begin, we will send you a Zoom invite. Space is limited, so if you think this timely discussion is for you, don’t hesitate!

We’re looking forward to it!
