Film Night: An Ode to Joy

Film Night: An Ode to Joy

On Friday, February 28th, we’re hosting a film night at Ancient Path featuring the critically acclaimed documentary, Kinshasa Symphony. This story of the only symphony orchestra in the Democratic Republic of Congo takes us into the daily lives of musicians in a city devastated by war, violence, corruption, and poverty. When their instruments are stolen, they figure out how to make them themselves. When the lights go out during rehearsal, one of the musicians climbs a pole and, twisting bare wires together, starts a generator. And at the end of the film, when the strains of Beethoven’s 9th and Orff’s Carmina Burana fill the public square, the joy of the performers is both uncontainable and contagious.

This inspiring documentary is 95 minutes in length. Afterward, we’ll discuss the film and talk about the power of the arts in our world, communities, and lives.

We’ll provide popcorn and something to drink, but feel free to bring a snack to share. (And don’t forget your favorite blanket!)

Date & Time: Friday February 28th at 7 pm
Location: Ancient Path Office  – 3389 Fulton Road (2nd floor of the FMC school building)
