June 2013 Report Chifundo Kids Malawi

CK_group_6-2013Here is the latest report from Chifundo Director, Pastor Moses Mtambo in Kaliyeka Township, Malawi:

The Chifundo program continues twice weekly with 120 children who are divided into two classes by age group. They come to eat, hear Bible stories, sing and memorize scripture verses, dance, draw pictures, play games together and enjoy toys they don’t have at home. Even through the rainy season, the children’s attendance remained steady and the program continues to grow.

Many of our children are struggling, however. Our Chifundo team visits two children in their homes each month to check on their condition and general progress. This month we visited the home of Bright Kandulu after the guardian reported that he had stopped attending school. After some investigation we discovered the reason behind Bright’s truancy is one common to Malawian children: hunger. Bright does not have enough to eat at home and finds it difficult to go to school when he is so hungry.

We also visited the house of Towera Assam after receiving a report that her mother had deserted the home. We discovered that her mother has remarried and because the new husband does not want the children, she abandoned them. This is a very difficult time for Towera, Tupoche and little Bead who are now staying with an unmarried step-sister who barely scratches out her own living doing small piece work.

Thank you for your continued prayer and support for these precious children!
