Kawale School Project with Knorr-Bremse Global Care

IMG_8094_550 copyWe are excited to announce that Ancient Path has been awarded a grant for 31,000 Euros ( over $42,000) to construct new school blocks in Kawale, Malawi in partnership with Knorr-Bremse Global Care, Munich, Germany.

The story starts with Ancient Path’s board treasurer, Martin Mtambo, who was once a student at Kawale Primary School.  On a 2013 family visit to his home in Malawi, Martin visited his old school and discovered that, currently, the school has a total of 33 classes and 18 classes must learn outside under tree-shades. He returned home to Cleveland with a desire to help.

Through his position at  Bendix Corporation as Manager of New Business Development, Martin heard about a program through the parent company, Knorr-Bremse Global Care, that helps impoverished communities like Kawale. A proposal was drafted, an agreement reached and a new partnership formed! The objective of the project is to build two school blocks and provide new furnishings and chairs for the classrooms.

We are obviously very excited about this project for many reasons. One of them is that this allows us to do something significant for a nearby community that is not involved in our ongoing Chifundo Program. Although our program has exploded to 200 children, many more stand at the gate week after week, straining to get in. They often do, and the food is divided and divided again. They stay for the games and the stories and the tutoring, but it is simply impossible to help every needy child in the Kawale/Kaliyeka communities through that single program. New school blocks in Kawale will assist these children in very meaningful ways.

We are very grateful to Knorr Bremse Global Care – grateful for their support, their trust and for their vision to help communities like Kawale. We are also grateful to Martin Mtambo and to the people of Kaliyeka and Kawale who trust us to partner with them in their communities.
Together we will make a difference!
