In Malawi, over 80% of the population are subsistence farmers and 70% live below the international poverty line on less than $1.90 a day. Malawians are hard-working, resourceful people, but drought, floods, and soil degradation all contribute to crop failure, poor harvests, escalating maize prices, and hunger.
Malawians have a saying: Chimanga ndi Moyo. Maize is life. As long as they have maize, they have hope for tomorrow. Sometimes, it’s necessary to share what we have to give them both.
When times of extreme hunger do occur, Ancient Path asks for contributions from our supporters, enabling us to distribute 50-kilogram bags of maize to each child’s household to help counteract food shortages and skyrocketing prices.
As the guardians gather to receive their maize, Director Mtambo communicates the transformative vision we all share for the Kaliyeka Township community. He speaks of empowerment and our ultimate goal of self-sustainability in all things. He encourages the women to start dreaming big dreams for their families and urges them to take advantage of the vocational training opportunities at Ancient Path Malawi. One woman expresses the hope that one day, they can stand on their own two feet and give back financially, becoming Ancient Path donors themselves.
As always, we are filled with gratitude and send many thanks to all of our faithful supporters. Without you, none of this would be possible!
