Meet Kumbukani – and more from Chifundo Kids, Malawi

KambukaniMeet Kumbukani Bilati, a nine-year-old boy in Kaliyeka Township, Malawi. Like other boys his age, Kumbukani enjoys playing soccer and bawo with his friends in our Chifundo program. In standard four at school, Kumbukani enjoys studying Chichewa most of all, but his single parent continually struggles to provide for his most basic needs, including the school supplies required required for attendance. Kumbukani’s favorite food is nsima and vegetables and he dreams of growing up to be a soldier one day.

Malawi Chifundo Director Pastor Moses Mtambo reports that Kumbukani and all of the Chifundo children are still coming in large numbers to enjoy playing games, coloring, storytelling, dancing and, of course, eating together.

The Chifundo team continues to visit several children and guardians in their homes each month, to check on their well-being and to inquire about any specific challenges they may be facing. While the team is encouraged when they receive positive reports on the Chifundo children’s’ progress in every area, the reality is that their lives at home are difficult, at best. Because the guardians are most often away from home looking for ways to make a living, these young and vulnerable children face hunger, loneliness and fear on a daily basis.

This is why the Chifundo program is so important for them and why they are so grateful for every meal, every story, every shared toy, every activity. They are grateful for medicine when they’re sick and blankets when they’re cold. More than anything they are grateful for every word of encouragement that comes from Pastor Moses and his team – words that remind these children that there is a God who loves them and gives them hope for a better future.

It costs only 53 cents to feed one child a hot, nutritious meal. If you would like to help us help them please donate online today. 100% of all funds donated to our Chifundo’s Basket program go directly to aid the children.

Ancient Path is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
