Update on Ancient Path’s Chifundo Event

Ancient Path’s recent Chifundo Event  at Cornerstone of Hope was an afternoon of encouragement, personal adoption stories, updates from Africa, and prayer.

Adoptive parents,  Jim and Gina Wilson shared about their ongoing journey to adopt a sibling group of 6 children in the Philippines. Together they talked about God’s faithfulness in expanding their faith as a couple. In a matter of 2 hours they reached to decision to add 6 more children to their current family of two biological and two adopted children. They are currently waiting for the formal approval from the Philippines and Gina told how the eldest girl has just turned 18, which may render her un-adoptable by US law. They have contacted government officials for help and are asking for prayer on their behalf. The Wilsons have recently started renovating their home to prepare for their soon-to-be family of 10 children.

Susan Blatt was the next guest speaker, sharing her recent journey to Bulgaria to adopt 10 year old Krissy, a beautiful daughter with Down’s Syndrome. Susan shared how the Lord has challenged her to not just talk about the plight of orphans, but rather to take action. She also talked about God’s faithfulness to provide what He calls you to do, relating the costliness of adoption to the price God paid to adopt us into His family.  Susan is also mom to daughters 12-year-old Martha and 14 year old Gracie, both adopted from China and both remarkable young women. Gracie, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, delighted everyone at the event with her beautifully crafted necklaces made of paper. Gracie sells her creations and pours all of her proceeds back into missions. Susan is currently in the process of adopting  a four year old  child with Down’s Syndrome, also from Bulgaria. She hopes to bring Lydia home by the end of the year.

Next up to speak was Ancient Path board treasurer, Martin Mtambo. Martin was born and raised in Malawi, Africa and serves as a liaison to our Chifundo program director in Malawi, Moses Mtambo. It was with obvious pride that Martin shared about his brother’s diligence and dedication to the orphans and vulnerable children in his care – as well as his love and compassion for the Malawian people. With lots of photos to illustrate the ongoing work among the children of Kalieka Township, Martin had plenty to share and the heart to do it!

The afternoon ended with prayer for our children and for orphans, in general. People encouraged one another and connected in the areas of their passion and if the food hadn’t run out, it may have gone on for hours. As it was, Chifundo Event coordinator, Julia Ellifritt had to push everyone out the door!

Thanks to everyone who made this afternoon so rich and meaningful – and to Cornerstone of Hope for the use of their beautiful facility!
