Why We Do What We Do

Why We Do What We Do

The Ancient Path journey started two decades ago. It began when Founder, Patt Wadenpfuhl accepted an invitation to teach at a conference in Malawi, Africa, which shattered her worldview and overturned her world. Upon her return to the States, she was joined by three smart, skilled friends – Cathy Monnin, Julia Ellifritt, and Elaine Skulina – who caught the vision and worked countless hours to help start this non-profit that has become Ancient Path.

But there is more to the story. Ancient Path was also born in prayer, worship, tears and spiritual hunger. Every Sunday night, people gathered to ask God to show us His heart and we began to pray what we call our three dangerous prayers:

Open our eyes to see the world the way You see the world.
Break our heart with the things that break mine.
Empty me of everything but Love.

We continue to pray these prayers and God continues to answer.  Over the past twenty years, as many of us have traveled, we have begun to see God at work in the nations.  This has both challenged and enriched our spiritual journey as He has expanded our understanding of the Kingdom of God.

We haven’t used the blog section on this site much – and only to talk about what others are doing. But we want to start talking about what God is doing in the world and in our hearts – how He is challenging us to live more fully devoted lives.

For now, Patt is going to regularly share thoughts from her own spiritual walk and experiences in the world that have influenced and helped shape the work that we do. In the future, other Ancient Path voices and viewpoints will join in – and of course, we look forward to your insights and feedback!
